Everyone has a dog. Except for one little boy. He has a goldfish. He needs a dog. Mom says, “Why do you need a dog when you have such a nice goldfish?” But what’s the use in having a goldfish when they don’t catch sticks, they don’t wag their tail and they don’t go for walks. Well, the little boy is about to find out that there’s much more to his goldfish than meets the eye. Gillian Shields’ delightful story offers a great example of creative problem solving. The story certainly helps kids to think about “old” things in new ways. Maybe just because one doesn’t always get what one wants, doesn’t mean that one can’t enjoy what one has, right?
